Never let your values be on the beach, when going in the water.  Remember to lock the car, and don't let anything valuable lie on the seats, so a thief can be tempted.
It  often happens in connection with arrival and departure in the airport and where many people are gathered on market places and so on. Therefore pay special attention on such places.
Another evident subject for a thief is the hotel room, so remember to close windows and doors - even when you are home. Saying home we also mean in the night, because a thief isn't afraid of going in, while you are sleeping.

What to do, if your things are stolen abroad!
If you are robbed abroad, you have to notify the local police. Address and telephone number is to be found under the city you live in. It's an assumption for you to, if your insurance company are to pay for your stolen goods. Therefore get a copy of the notification/police report with you home.

Stolen Credit cards
If your Credit Card is stolen, you have to call your bank at once, and maybe to the credit card company to have your stolen card blocked. Read under banks.

Stolen Passport
If you loose your Passport, the Embassy in Madrid or one of the Consulates spread around Spain issue a provisory Passport, valid to your homecoming to England. Before that can take place, you have to go to the local police and notify the loss of the passport, and ask for a police report "denuncia policial". The police report is brought to the Embassy/Consulate included two photos in the passport size (3,5 x 4,5 cm). When receiving a provisory passport, you have to pay a fee - see the section concerning fees,

Stolen air ticket
If your air ticket is stolen, you have to contact the air company at once. If you are able to prove, that you have ordered and paid for it, the Travel Agency or the Air Company can issue an emergency ticket. Under normal conditions your name will often be in the computer system, so you are able to document the reservation by showing your passport. In order to receive a new ticket, you have to sign a "solemn declaration", wherein you promise to pay for the disappeared ticket, if it is used before it is expired. By the way isn't it free of charge to have a new ticket issued. It is fairly expensive, maybe 50 - 75 €.


Anything else
Your normal insurance will as a rule cover your loss by theft. There will be some restrictions. As an example will theft of cash normally be covered by a much smaller amount.
