Gran Canaria is a
very cultural place with a very diverse range of people and
visitors within its borders. Gran Canaria is unique in that
it caters for everyone no matter what the taste is.
The
popular tourist areas are home to a large selection
of restaurants, with some high class establishments
located in Las Palmas. Expensive doesn’t necessarily
mean delicious or authentic however, and if you
really want a true a taste of traditional cuisine,
you will need to seek out the smaller establishments
where the locals hang out. Restaurants don’t get
busy of an evening until about 21.00 and it’s not
unusual for diners to still be eating around 23.00.
Vast range of foods
Restaurants in Gran Canaria offer a vast range of foods from
across the globe from Indian, Chinese, Thai, American,
traditional English and European, Japanese,
and Mexican as well as Fast food, fine dining and
much much more.
The variety and quality of
places to eat are second to none on the Canary Islands. With a diversity
of food to satisfy the hungriest appetite, or the most discerning
palates, from the humble Fish and Chips to a gourmet banquet prepared by
top chefs from around the world.
You will also find that most
restaurants have excellent wines, including the locally produced, as
well as a selection of beers and spirits.
Caught fresh every day, fish is
a speciality on the Canary Islands having always been one of the staples
of these seafaring people. Why not treat yourself to one of the many
fish dishes cooked in the traditional Canarian style, usually served
with a Mojo sauce, either hot and spicy or garlic, this is accompanied
by fresh local vegetables and fruit, a pleasure not to be missed during
your stay.
For instance during your holiday in the
Canary Islands, why not try a Tapas, an ideal quick snack or light meal
with a difference, consisting of small portions of main meals such as
meat balls, fried squid or cured ham. The best way to try them is to
choose two or three different ones, a good idea if there is a group of
you, that way you will have maybe a dozen different dishes to share. A
great way to sample the local food.
With a culture as
diverse as Gran Canarias, you will never be stuck for
something new or different to try, and that is why Gran Canaria is such a great place to eat out. |
