The Carnival linked to the Easter season begins around the end of February and sees festivities across the island, with particular emphasis on the towns of Las Palmas, San Bartolomé, Maspalomas, Agüimes, Agaete and Telde, with each town having its own specific events during this period (February/March). Processions, singing groups competition, musical bands, carnival queens.

There are other colourful festivities, for instance Maspalomas Carnival - in mid-May, a colourful gay and lesbian carnival around the Playa del Inglés area of Gran Canarias's Maspalomas resort, with Carnival Queen and Drag Queen contests, together with parades and many events focused on the Yumbo Shopping Centre.
