History

Teror is an old Canarian. Unlike the name suggests, it's actually a delightful, little village, peaceful and very charming.

It's known as the "city with the balconies" because of the many beautifully carved white balconies that are on display all throughout the town. This is typical of Canarian houses in this region.

One of the town's most interesting feature is the church Basilica de Nuestra Señora del Pino. It's located right in the centre of the town and was built back in the 1700's. It's quite an impressive structure.

The religious Centre of the Island and the 4th biggest town. Known for the Pine Madonna. Tradition says, that she in 1400 saved the town from a bad drought, and since then she has been the patron saint of the town. In the church you find a treasury filled with gifts for the Pine Madonna.

The journey up to Teror is a treat in itself. As you pass through the mountains on the narrow winding road (lined with eucalyptus trees), you'll see spectacular views out over the countryside. You'll also pass by many small villages along the way.

There's a huge market on every Sunday. This is an absolute must see. Locals from all the surrounding villages (and further a field) come here to do their shopping. They sell everything from traditional Canarian foods to local clothes and crafts.

Here is space to much more, so please help webmaster - bring stories from the different places, trip suggestions, travel then help webmaster - bring accounts of journey's, of course with pictures, if it is possible, and of course with a copyright to use them.

We hope soon to receive
