The church was built thanks to the fact, that a
big part of the capital was donated by an emigrant from Tejeda,
Matias Sarmiento, who was living in Havana. The construction was
stopped several times. But in 1811, Cabilde Catedralicio supported
the church, and it was finished 2 Years later. |

Molino de Viento
|
|
|
This windmill,
after which the neighbourhood is named, is one of the few to be
found on the island.
The beautiful old
Windmill in Mogán origin 1700 has been renovated in 1998 by
an craftsman from Lanzarote, with wood imported from
Honduras. It played an important part in the history
of Mogán, as it was here that local people brought their grain to be
milled to obtain gofio, the staple foodstuff of the time. In ruins
for decades following a fire, it was recently restored and is now in
working order. |

An outstanding
example of a traditional rural house is found here. With two floors,
it features a wooden corridor on the upper level reached by an
outside stairway. It has an open front patio and a kiln and animal
sheds in the vicinity. |

On the road from
Mogán to La Aldea de San Nicolás sheer rock faces with a
characteristic green hue appear. The coloration is due to
hydrothermal changes which took place thousands of years ago as
gases leaked through the earth. |

Barranco de Arguineguín

These villages
are found in the mountainous interior of the municipality.
The largest reservoir on the island is found in Soria. Ancient
constructions along the shores of the reservoir which have
resisted rising waters, offer insight into the architecture of
the time. The water is transported in a system built of slaves
in the 16th and 17th Centuries.
Walkers can explore the area as there are good foot paths
connecting the reservoirs and leading to Tauro mountain. |

Tauro Alto |
|
Veneguera
|
|
A small hamlet
located in an area of great beauty in the midst of palm groves
and cardón plants. An extraordinary example of typical canarian
architecture is found in the vicinity of the street named Los
Almácigos
and also in Pié de la Cuesta; a motley collection of stone
walled, tiled houses with wooden balconies, patios and animal
sheds.
In Barranco de Veneguera, you also find Las Casas de Veneguera,
which come Christmas is one of the most
interesting places on Gran Canaria. |
