Building of the church was started in 1901 on the ruins of a former small church, situated on exactly the same spot. To day there's no trace of this church.

Barranco de Guayadeque, marking out the municipalities of Ingenio and Aguimes, descends spectacularly from Marteles Crater, at the peak, to the edge of Airport.

It's a landscape worth seeing, with lots of plants and animals and water running along it all year round.

The cave complex Cuevas Muchas,  cave-city, quite a unique place, where the population still lives in caves. These caves, or the Houses, are carved directly in the rocks in this special city, and are able to maintain a constant temperature all year round.

In Guayadeque you'll also find various caves, some once used by the Native Islanders as burial places, and where once  mummies - embalmed Guanches - was found.

Some of the other caves are currently used as bars, the perfect place for people to stop for a break and try the local wine.

The oldest Handwork School of the City. There is also a possibility to buy original canarian handiwork. Here you can also find a Christmas crib come Christmas.

The cave restaurant Tagaror which is situated 900 meter over sea level and absolutely is worth visiting.
Take a walk around the Mountain and see how the local are living  - an exiting experience.

Ingenio is just the place to go if you want to stop being roasted on the beach, see real Gran Canaria and meet real Canarian's for the day.

This small town is also well known for its arts and crafts. As you enter the town you will see on the main roundabout a monument of a sugar press. Sugar production was important to the early development of the town, although it is no longer grown in any quantity.

In the 19th century, Ingenio won independence from the neighbouring town of Agüimes and became a municipality in its own right.

The small chapel of La Candelaria was declared an independent parish church in 1815.

From the 16th century, the economic activity of the borough revolved around sugar cane. The popular sugar "ingenio", or mill, that was built in the area became the name of the borough and so Ingenio became an important economic estate for several centuries.
