History |
|
|
Firgas is a charming
little town that's famous throughout the Canary Islands for producing
top class sparkling mineral water.
It all comes from a spring in Barranco de la Virgin, which is about 5kms
away. The water is incredibly popular throughout the islands; you'll see
it everywhere. They produce an impressive 200,000 bottles a day.
But, there's more to Firgas than just water. The town itself is very
pretty and has some interesting sights. Check out the Paseo de Gran
Canaria. There's a huge man-made waterfall here that cascades over 30
meters down to the pedestrian passage below. It's quite a sight; it
draws crowds of onlookers and passers-by.
You'll also see many painted landscapes and historic symbols of Gran
Canaria all over the town, on the benches, on the sides of houses, etc.
It's a visual treat!
Go further along the Paseo and you'll come to a structure with big slabs
and ceramic ornaments that give a very detailed map of Gran Canaria and
the surrounding islands.
The promenade itself is very entertaining - full of life and atmosphere;
where young and old people gather all throughout the day and night. |
