The Canary Islands
government has now placed a conservation order on this area, following
the successful reforestation policy conducted in Gran Canaria since the
middle of the 20th century.
The government has succeeded in recovering threatened areas, such as the
Tamadaba massif, now covered with spectacular pinewoods.
Within this pine forest are some very grand old trees, while from the
craggy foothills, such as Risco del Faneque, there's a fantastic view of
the town of Agaete and Anden Verde, with its cliffs descending sharply
into the sea. |

History |

Artenara
is the highest situated City on Gran Canaria,
where big parts of the population still lives in caves. Guanches
who lived on this Island noticed the advantages by digging their houses
direct into the Mountain. To day the caves are modernised, and they are used
to obtain a more level inertial climate. |
